The Albany Veterinary Hospital is the hub of the Veterinary Hospital Group. It was first started in Library Lane in Albany Village and moved to its current location at 416 Albany Highway in 1994. Dr Grant McCullough has owned the clinic for the whole of its life.
Grant is no longer seen in the clinic doing vet work, but he is seen around the place mowing lawns and doing renovations for all of our group clinics.
Albany has recently undergone some exciting renovations, adding a new consult room, redesigning our reception area and sprucing up our surgery and prep areas. The staff are very happy with their new shiny clinic and we hope you will enjoy it too.
Albany is very pleased to be able to offer many services to our clients, including Neil’s orthopaedic surgery skills that he shares with the group.
Conveniently located on Albany Highway with ample parking, Albany Veterinary Hospital is a small animal practice ready to cater for any of your animal needs. The team of Vets includes Daniel Lamont, Dr Neil Warnock, Dr Genna Ackroyd and Dr Devon Russell. Grant McCullough is the Managing Director and Owner of the Veterinary Hospital Group. Grant has worked in Equine and Dairy Practice in Northland, specialist Centres in the UK and for the last 32 years in Small Animal Practice in Auckland. Grant purchased Albany Veterinary Hospital in 1991 and has overseen the steady growth of the group since that time. Grant lives in Coatesville with his wife, a dog, 2 horses and lots of sheep. In recent years Grant has been on the board of the NZ Veterinary Association & served as President from 2019 to 2022. Grant has also completed a term on NAWAC (National animal welfare advisory committee) In his spare time he enjoys family time especially if that includes yachts or snowy mountains
Daniel grew up in the Hawkes Bay and following his graduation from vet school he worked in a predominantly farm animal practice in the King Country, until a desire to see the world led him to the UK for 5 years, where he worked in a variety of veterinary practices. Daniel is now a local in Coatesville where he lives with his partner Sidah, son Marcus and daughter Maia.
Neil graduated from Edinburgh in 2012 and has worked in mixed practice over the last 10 years. Over the last 5 he has started to do more and more companion animal work and has developed a keen interest in orthopaedic surgery. Neil is now working as our referral vet for the Veterinary Hospital Group and doing orthopaedic surgeries sent to us from our 9 other branches.
Genna graduated at the end of 2020 and moved back to Auckland to join the Veterinary Hospital Group. She started out between the Albany and Dairy Flat clinics working with lifestyle block animals as well as with domestic pets. She has since stopped her lifestyle block work to focus on her greatest interest; cats and dogs at Hobsonville Veterinary Hospital and Albany. In her spare time you can catch her playing hockey at the stadium across the road or creating her pet portaits @pawprintsbygenna
Following graduation from Massey University in 2021, Devon soon moved to Auckland to join the Veterinary Hospital Group. Devon enjoys working with all companion animals but has an especially soft spot for Cavalier King Charles Spaniels after growing up with them in Wellington. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, rollerskating, baking and reading.
Following graduation from Massey University in 2020, Mikaela started her veterinary career in the Manawatu. Originally working with horses, she has since stopped her equine work to focus on her greatest interest, cats and dogs at Hibiscus Coast Veterinary Hospital and Albany. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, training her dogs and creating her pet portraits @mikaelanipperart.
Sarah graduated with a diploma in vet nursing in 2012. She has worked as a vet nurse ever since, starting at the Auckland SPCA, before joining the Veterinary Hospital Group at our Parkhill clinic in 2016. After managing the Parkhill clinic for nearly 5 years, she decided to go back to her roots and become a surgical nurse at Albany. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with friends, going to concerts and travelling overseas. She lives in Massey with her husband and her 2 cats, Dartanyan & Loki.
Karen has been with the Albany Vet Hospital for MANY years. She lives in Wellsford with her family. They have 1 crazy cat called Rubble and a lovely dog called Diesel. In her spare time she will be found at the beach with her family enjoying the waves or out exploring the world with the kids.
Stacey finished her diploma of vet nursing in November 2022 after starting with the Vet Hospital Group as a student in 2021. When she’s not working Stacey will be at the beach, reading or spending time with her husband and their fur-child, Berlioz, a mischievous tuxedo cat.
Jayde has been in the group since 2019. Jayde graduated from her Bachelor’s in Veterinary Nursing at the end of 2021. Since then she has loved working full time in the Vet Hospital group. Outside of work Jayde enjoys reading, watching movies and hanging out with her two Cocker Spaniels.
Echo Tian Echo has been working with the Albany team since 2022. Echo lives locally with her partner, dog Jojo and cats Miaw Miaw, XiaXia and Mimi.
Marion currently works Saturdays at Albany and picks up shifts whenever possible. She is finishing her Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing in Unitec. She currently lives in North Shore. She recently adopted a lovely rescue dog named Amber (Poodle mix). Marion loves getting involved in surgery and anaesthesia. In her free time, she loves to read, go thrifting and playing videogames.
Jade qualified as a vet nurse in 2016 with a National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing from Otago Polytechnic and obtained her Diploma in Vet Nursing in 2019 through Unitec. Jade started with the clinic in November 2022. You may see her hippo dog Paris wondering around the clinic. In her spare time she likes to ride her dirtbike, Jeremy.
Emily started full time with the Albany team in late 2023. Emily has worked with the VHG group while studying for her Bachelor in Veterinary Nursing and qualified in 2022. In her spare time Emily likes to make amazing jewelry out of animal teeth, you should ask to see some if your ever in clinic.
Dr Diesel is a new addition to our manager Karen’s family and also to the Albany Clinics family. Diesel is a 2year old rescue dog that Karen and her family rehomed in January 2023. He has settled in very well both at work and at home. He will be seen around the clinic most days either hanging out the front or walking his little person back and forwards to school just down the road.
Full time cuddle therapist/ Part time dog. I belong to one of the nurses here, Jade. I am a 13.5 year old Catahoula Leopard dog crossed with a Staffy. My mum rescued me through the SPCA, while she was volunteering in their puppy quarantine. My favourite thing to do is lick people. Little people are my favorite as they are right at my level. My least favourite things is being left alone as I have separation anxiety.
