Swallowed Foreign Bodies

Does your dog eat strange things? Can it cause any harm? Yes it can!

Swallowed Foreign Bodies

It is important that you take your dog to a veterinary clinic as soon as you notice that it may have swallowed something that it shouldn’t!

Dogs are naturally curious animals and are notorious for getting into and eating things they shouldn’t. From bones and toys to fish hooks and rubbish (trust us, we have seen it all!!). However these habits can sometimes cause serious problems including:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Constipation
  • Obstruction (where an object has become stuck in the digestive tract)
  • Toxicity (illness from poisoning)

And of course all of these are painful conditions for your dog. It is important that you take your dog to a veterinary clinic as soon as you notice that it may have swallowed something that it shouldn’t or showing any of the above symptoms or discomfort.

Some of the things we have seen dogs eat, include but are not limited to:

  • peach stones
  • corn cobs
  • bones and stones
  • socks and underwear
