IMPORTANT news about Microchips

Faulty microchip batches have been identified. Get your pet's chip scanned in clinic

Dear valued clients,

In 2012 Virbac, a microchip manufacturer, became aware that there were read failures occurring in a new series of identification microchips that were introduced in 2009. These microchips were called BackHome BioTec and this failure rendered the microchips non-functional. Some failed microchips were replaced at that time.

It now seems possible that all of the BioTec microchips might fail over a longer period of time.Initially the manufacturer planned to replace every chip from the affected batches but they found this was going to be impracticable. The advice is to ensure that you get your pet's microchip scanned at every visit to the vet clinic to ensure that it is working.

If a Virbac microchip is found to not be functioning correctly then it will be replaced free of charge.

Affected microchip numbers are as below:
From 900-010-000-125-000 to 900-010-000-135-000

If you have any concerns or questions then please feel free to contact us at any of our clinics or bring your animal along for a free microchip check by one of our lovely staff.

From the team at the Veterinary Hospital Group.
